Stem Cell Therapy

What are Stem Cells?

Stem cells have unique capabilities. They can produce both copies of themselves and can also differentiate themselves into more specialized cells, such as muscle, cartilage & bone. Stem cells are essential to maintaining muscle, cartilage & bone. Stem cells respond to areas of the body which need replacement or repair. These areas may have been damaged during physical exertion, infection, inflammation or during the aging process & thus cannot repair or replenish themselves. We need to make new cells all the time, just to keep our body functioning.

Stem cells are the body’s natural reservoir – replenishing stocks of specialized cells that have been used up or damaged. We all have stem cells at work inside us. Right now, inside your bone marrow, stem cells are busy making the millions of new blood cells you need every single day.

We have Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs) throughout our body. As we age, these MSCs become fewer in number. Also, as we age the MSCs lose their ability to fix things. They become less robust. MSCs are located in fat, bone marrow and every organ in your body. The healthiest, most robust MSCs are obtained from a non-dangerous, non-controversial source: umbilical cords and placentas. These are also called Biologic Allografts because they stimulate your body’s own stem cells to function more as anti-inflammatory mediators, to balance auto-immunity and help reverse the degeneration process. These Biologic Allografts are “immune privileged”- they do not cause reactions in the person who receives them. They can be injected into your joints, directly IV, or into your “brown fat.”

MSC’s Cell Division & Potency:

Newborn umbilical cord cells divide every 24 hours, so after 30 days 1 billion cells are produced. 50-year-old cells will divide less often, so there will only be 200-300 cells after 30 days.

Also as we age, our stem cells do not secrete as many molecules that will stimulate regeneration. After age 50, the stem cells are less powerful in their capacity to modulate the immune system and decrease inflammation. Controlling inflammation is the real key to anti-aging!

MSCs home into sites of inflammation in the body. They secrete substances that turn off inflammation. MSCs also modulate the immune system over-activity and under-activity. Umbilical cord MSCs- Biologic Allografts, secrete more of these immune-modulating substances and they are more potent and have a greater effect on inflammation than the MSC’s from your fat.

Diseases Treated With Biologic Allografts:

  • Congestive Heart Failure
  • Cardiovascular Disease
  • Diabetes
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Autoimmune Diseases
  • Neurodegenerative Diseases
  • Autism
  • Spinal Cord Injury

In summary, Biologic Allografts:

  • Have Potent Anti-Inflammatory Action
  • Stimulate Potent Tissue Regeneration
  • Stimulate Potent Immune Modulation
